(zanimljiv raspon godina opranih i izljubljenih nogu )

Preosimo dijelove.

“The Holy Father in particular asked that the Congregation, continuing the line adopted by Benedict XVI, act decisively in cases of sexual abuse, promoting above all measures to protect minors, help for those who in the past suffered such violence and the necessary procedures against those who are guilty,” the Vatican said in a statement.

Izvrsno!

“The Holy Father gave assurances that the victims of abuse are particularly in his prayers.” Francis, the former archbishop of Buenos Aires, instructed bishops around the world to take a tough line on abusive priests, in order to rebuild the credibility of the Church.

Francis’s predecessor, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, was credited with addressing the issue on several fronts.

He disciplined Father Marcial Maciel, the notorious head of the Legionaries of Christ, a traditionalist religious order, who had abused children for years.

In 2009 he issued a heartfelt apology to victims of clerical abuse in Ireland, telling them: “You have suffered grievously and I am truly sorry… it is understandable that you find it hard to forgive or be reconciled with the Church.” He expressed “shame and remorse” for the crimes perpetrated by Irish priests.

The wording and timing of Francis’ statement was significant, said Dr Rebecca Rist, a historian of the papacy at the University of Reading.

“By proclaiming this message so early in his pontificate Pope Francis is sending a very strong signal to the world that he is willing to tackle the issue head on.

(It shows) that he is entirely in tune with the sentiments of his predecessor, Benedict XVI, who on his election as Pope also spoke strongly against the ‘filth’ of clerical sex abuse.”

“It also signals that Pope Francis is serious about his recent messages of reform and renewal in all quarters of the Church.”

Vidite, ozbiljan  čo’ek, čak i uvažena doktoruša to tvrdi.

But victims of clerical sex abuse were not impressed.

“Once again, as has happened hundreds of times already, a top Catholic official says he’s asking another top Catholic official to take action about paedophile priests and complicit bishops. Big deal,” said Barbara Dorris, from the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.

She said Francis had called his credibility on the issue into question within the first 24 hours of his papacy, when he met Cardinal Bernard Law, an American cardinal who resigned in disgrace amid allegations that he had covered up years of abuse by priests.

Cardinal Law resigned as archbishop of Boston 10 years ago, after issuing a statement begging forgiveness, and left the US after being accused in dozens of law suits of failing to protect children.

He took up residence in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. As the papal basilica in Rome, it was where Pope Francis went to pray on the morning after his election.

“One of the first actions Pope Francis took was to visit perhaps the most high profile corrupt prelate on the planet, who remains a powerful church official despite having been drummed out of Boston for hiding and enabling crimes by hundreds of child molesting clerics,” said Mrs Dorris.

“Kids won’t be helped by a “continuation” of the tiny symbolic gestures taken by Pope Benedict. Kids will be helped by decisive changes. Thus far, Pope Francis hasn’t even discussed, much less adopted, even a single reform. In fact, by visiting Law, the pope has continued to ignore – and thus encourage – heinous wrongdoing.”

“We must insist on new tangible action that helps vulnerable children protect their bodies, not old vague pledges that help a widely-discredited institution protect its reputation.”

Dream on, drage žrtve.
